Bowen has many attractions to boast in our relaxed community.

With award winning beaches and a vibrant community Bowen is the perfect holiday spot for families, couples and singles alike. You will find that there is something to do for everyone in our beautiful region. Make sure that you take a swim at one of our award winning beaches, go snorkeling at Horseshoe Bay and drop a line in at our jetty on Santa Barbara Parade. If you like walking you will enjoy the numerous walking tracks which will take you to some of the most amazing lookouts you have ever seen. Flagstaff Hill, for example offers you a 360 degree view of the area.

The BIG Mango represents the delicious fruit which carries the name sake of the town “Bowen Mango”. The BIG Mango is located at the Bowen Visitor Information Centre, 4 km south of Bowen on the Bruce Highway. The BIG Mango has recently had its very own brush with celebrity after being kidnapped by Nando’s Australia.

There are 25 historical murals, which are proudly displayed throughout Bowen’s streets. These murals depict the diverse history from the town’s early settlement to present day.

Bowen has some of the best fringing coral literally meters off the beaches and bays and islands. If you are in the Whitsundays come to Bowen for some great snorkeling. Fishing is one of Bowen’s biggest attractions. You can throw in a line from a beach, at a creek, off some rocks or the end of the jetty at the Front Beach. If its deeper water you are after, fishing charters are available. Fish in the waters around Bowen include coral trout, barramundi (in season), cod and sweetlip as well as grey, spotted and spanish mackeral. One thing to keep in mind while fishing around Bowen is the zoning for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. For more information about zoning, bag limits and size of fish. Nestled where “the Bush meets the Beach”, Bowen has a number of natural attractions that must be on any visitors itinerary. Bowen has five lookouts, each with it’s own amazing vista. Our premier lookout on Flagstaff Hill is a must do while visiting Bowen; with its own lookout tower and binoculars, any visitor is sure to get the best view in the Whitsundays! Other lookouts include the Mt Nutt Lookout, Horseshoe Bay Lookout, Grays Bay Lookout and the Reservoir Hill Lookout.

Bowen has a 9 hole beachfront golf links on Queens Bay and visitors are welcome. The clubhouse is equipped with a specialty store, bar and restaurant. There are also plenty of real estate opportunities if you would like to live on the Golf Course.

The coal mining town of Collinsville is well worth a visit. Only about one hours’ drive from Bowen, Collinsville offers a warm welcome to all travelers. You should have a look at the Coal Face Museum and historical Bowen River Hotel. On your way to Collinsville you might even spot some wild emus, buffalo and camels.
